It’s funny really. I’m a lifelong advocate of multiple passions, yet here I am – utterly devoted to one – dog sports. But here’s the thing. I never set out to find it. In fact I’m not a fan of the idea of chasing some grand ‘one true passion’ or subscribing to the idea that ‘if you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life.’

Yet we hear it all the time: Follow Your Passion. It’s meant to be inspiring. A call to find that one true thing that lights you up and devote yourself fully to it. But for many of us-especially those of us with many passions and interests -this idea has always felt… off.

For some people the idea of committing to just one thing feels suffocating rather than fulfilling.

The belief in one true passion is seductive. It promises clarity, purpose, and a clear path forward. But for many people it creates unnecessary pressure to choose just one thing. If you love multiple things you might feel like you’re ‘doing it wrong’. And even if you do find something that feels like your calling, what happens when your interests evolve?

Instead of finding the one true thing, what if the real goal is to live passionately – to bring energy, curiosity, enthusiasm to whatever we do?

Living passionately means something different for each of us.

It’s what we’re all here for. Engaging fully in what interests us right now, without worrying if it’s “the thing” we’ll do forever. Trusting our instincts when a new interest calls you, instead of sticking to what we thought our life ‘should look like”. Bringing our whole self to whatever we’re doing, whether that’s work, a hobby, or an unexpected detour.

Some people thrive on deep specialisation, and that’s great. Others thrive on variety, and that’s just as valid. Passion isn’t something you hunt down. It’s something that takes hold of you when you’re fully engaged in something. It sneaks up on you in the middle doing what feels good, what brings you alive, what you can’t stop thinking about. And when it does? You have a choice. To follow it, or to keep it at arms length, treating it like a side hobby while ‘real life’ happens elsewhere.

I did that for years. I balanced my love for dog sports with my coaching business, keeping it in it’s ‘proper place’. Until one day I realised that passion isn’t meant to be managed – it’s meant to lead. So I let it. And everything fell into place.

This doesn’t mean your one true love has to be the same thing forever. Maybe it shifts, evolves, or is expressed in multiple ways. The point isn’t to narrow yourself down – it’s to recognise what nudges you forward and have the courage to follow it. It’s not just in the specific thing we choose to pursue. It’s the way we approach life.

Living passionately is a pursuit I’ve always found fascinating. It’s an endless pool of self-discovery that brings us closer to ourselves and others. And it’s where my heart lies today.

Thank you for being here.
